Eric Hunn, Executive Director of Team Member Services, Whole Foods Market
Eric leads Team Members Services for Whole Foods Market, California Inc. where he oversees the human resources, learning & development, recruiting, and legal functions for 9,200-employees. He is also the person in charge of transforming the way Whole Foods Market does performance management across the entire company in its nearly 500 stores.
He joined Whole Foods in June 2016 where he quickly led a project to improve the frontline employee experience for all 90,000 employees by creating a number of new flexibilities around scheduling and creating new commitments to team members around communication and openness. Prior to joining Whole Foods, he was the Director of Human Resources for Ghirardelli Chocolate. Eric began his career as a Presidential Management Fellow working in the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). His first foray into human resources began at OMB where he was the liaison between the White House and the newly formed Department of Homeland Security.
In that capacity, he worked on incorporating some of the flexibilities and pay for performance aspects of the private sector into the newest government agency. From there he moved into management consulting for federal agencies working on designing human capital and performance management initiatives. Eric is passionate about flexible workplaces and tries to bring high-freedom work practices more often associated with the tech sector to retail organizations. He believes in finding new ways to make work feel less like work so employees can show up and not feel the need to put on their work persona. Eric lives in Lafayette, California, with his wife and eight-year-old son. He is the leader for his son’s Cub Scout Den, and is also a Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commissioner for Contra Costa County.
